The total area is about 9 970 610 square kilometres. This is about 120 times larger than Austria. With a population of about 35 mill. inhabitants the density is rather low with 3,4/km² (Austria: 101,4/km²).

Canada comprises eight vegetation zones, most of which are dominated by forest. In Canada there are long, snow guaranteed winters and short, partly hot summers. There are also high temperature differences.
Quebec is the only Canadian province that has a predominantly French-speaking population, and the only one to have French as its sole provincial official language. It is Canada's largest province by area and its second-largest administrative division. But Quebec fights for its independence because they fear their language is being threatened by the english-speaking population. Whitin Quebec the percentage of people who are in favour of an independence is about 61%. The problem is that within the whole country the majority is against it with about 58%.
